Bhai Dooj is on Wednesday, 11 November 2026. It closes the Diwali week, which begins with Dhanteras on Friday, 6 November and reaches Lakshmi Puja on Sunday, 8 November. In the north many families call it Bhaiya Dooj; in Maharashtra it is Bhau Beej.
The ritual is simple and lovely. A sister applies a tilak to her brother’s forehead, the family shares a meal, and the brother gives her a gift. Many of us also use the Diwali week to thank our mother with something she can keep. Jewellery suits both, because long after the sweets are finished, she is still wearing it.
How to choose a jewellery gift she will actually wear
- Skip the ring if you don’t know her size. A pendant, earrings or an adjustable bracelet needs no sizing.
